    PURRS: Towards Computer Algebra Support for Fully Automatic Worst-Case Complexity Analysis

    Fully automatic worst-case complexity analysis has a number of applications in computer-assisted program manipulation. A classical and powerful approach to complexity analysis consists in formally deriving, from the program syntax, a set of constraints expressing bounds on the resources required by the program, which are then solved, possibly applying safe approximations. In several interesting cases, these constraints take the form of recurrence relations. While techniques for solving recurrences are known and implemented in several computer algebra systems, these do not completely fulfill the needs of fully automatic complexity analysis: they only deal with a somewhat restricted class of recurrence relations, or sometimes require user intervention, or they are restricted to the computation of exact solutions that are often so complex to be unmanageable, and thus useless in practice. In this paper we briefly describe PURRS, a system and software library aimed at providing all the computer algebra services needed by applications performing or exploiting the results of worst-case complexity analyses. The capabilities of the system are illustrated by means of examples derived from the analysis of programs written in a domain-specific functional programming language for real-time embedded systems.Comment: 6 page

    Risk Sharing with Deep Neural Networks

    We consider the problem of optimally sharing a financial position among agents with potentially different reference risk measures. The problem is equivalent to computing the infimal convolution of the risk metrics and finding the so-called optimal allocations. We propose a neural network-based framework to solve the problem and we prove the convergence of the approximated inf-convolution, as well as the approximated optimal allocations, to the corresponding theoretical values. We support our findings with several numerical experiments

L?Istituto di Linguistica Computazionale, partner di ELRA (http://www.elra.org) nell?organizzazione di questo evento, ha avuto l?incarico di installare, configurare e gestire tutti i servizi di rete utilizzati dai congressisti durante l?evento. In questo documento descriveremo le scelte tecnologiche fatte per fornire ai congressisti una copertura Wi-Fi su gran parte dei locali utilizzati e rendere disponibile, a chi non aveva con se un notebook, un?area dotata di PC con connessione ad Internet. Cominceremo da una descrizione dei locali dei Magazzini del Cotone utilizzati durante il congresso per poi illustrare come ? stato fornito il servizio di connessione ad internet rispettando il decreto ministeriale interno del 16/8/2005 che ha obbligato a tenere traccia del mittente di tutte le connessioni di rete. Successivamente descriveremo il software ZoneCD utilizzato per il controllo in base al decreto appena citato, la suddivisione in Area dei locali della conferenza coperti dal segnale di rete ed infine alcune statistiche d?uso raccolte durante l?evento

    Clinical, epidemiological and virological features of acute hepatitis B in Italy

    Purpose To evaluate the association of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotypes, basal core promoter (BCP)/precore (PC) and S gene mutations with the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of acute hepatitis B (AHB) in Italy. Methods During July 2005–January 2007, 103 symptomatic AHB patients were enrolled and prospectively followed up at 15 national hospitals. HBV genotypes, BCP/ PC and S gene variants were determined by nested-PCR and direct sequence analysis. Results Genotype D, A and F were detected in 49, 45 and 6 % of patients, respectively. BCP, PC, and BCP plus PC variants were found in 3.1, 11.3 and 7.2 % of patients, respectively. At enrollment, 68.3 % of patients were hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-positive and 31.7 % HBeAg-negative. BCP/PC mutations were more common in HBeAg-negative than in HBeAg-positive patients (p < 0.0001). Compared to genotype D patients, those harboring non-D genotypes were more frequently males (p = 0.023), HBeAg-positive (p < 0.001), had higher bilirubin (p = 0.014) and viremia (p = 0.034) levels and less frequently carried BCP/PC mutations (p < 0.001). Non-D genotype patients more often were from Central Italy (p = 0.001) and reported risky sexual exposure (p = 0.021). Two patients had received vaccination before AHB: one harbored genotype F; the other showed a S gene mutation. Four patients developed fulminant AHB; mutations were found in 2 of 3 patients who underwent BCP/ PC sequencing. After a 6-month follow-up, only 2 (2.8 %) patients developed persistent infection. Conclusion AHB by non-D genotypes is increasing in Italy and is associated with risky sexual exposure.     ARCH-COMP20 Category Report: Hybrid Systems with Piecewise Constant Dynamics and Bounded Model Checking

    This report presents the results of a friendly competition for formal verification of continuous and hybrid systems with piecewise constant dynamics. The friendly competition took place as part of the workshop Applied Verification for Continuous and Hybrid Systems (ARCH) in 2020. In this fourth edition, five tools have been applied to solve six different benchmark problems in the category for piecewise constant dynamics: BACH, PHAVerLite, PHAVer/SX, TROPICAL, and XSpeed. Compared to last year, we combine the HBMC and HPWC categories of ARCH-COMP 2019 to a new category PCDB (hybrid systems with Piecewise Constant bounds on the Dynamics (HPCD) and Bounded model checking (BMC) of HPCD systems). The result is a snapshot of the current landscape of tools and the types of benchmarks they are particularly suited for. Due to the diversity of problems, we are not ranking tools, yet the presented results probably provide the most complete assessment of tools for the safety verification of continuous and hybrid systems with piecewise constant dynamics up to this date
